What Is the Best Season to Visit the Agafay Desert?

Good news: the Agafay desert can be visited all year round. Thirty minutes from Marrakech and at around 1,000 metres altitude, it enjoys a semi-arid climate milder than the Sahara. But each season offers a different experience — here is the complete weather guide to choose yours.

Spring (March to May): The Queen Season

Ideal temperatures of 20 to 28°C by day, mild nights around 12–15°C. After winter rains, the Agafay hills sometimes take on a fleeting green veil dotted with wildflowers — a rare sight in a desert landscape. It's the perfect period for horseback treks and camel rides. The only catch: it's also the busiest, so book early.

Summer (June to August): Magical Evenings

Days are hot (35 to 40°C), but the Agafay summer experience is lived by the pool and then at dusk: from 7pm, temperatures drop to around 25°C and evenings are divine. Autumn (September to November): Golden Light

Spring's mirror: 22 to 30°C, exceptional golden light for photography and gentler crowds. October is considered by many THE perfect month: residual summer warmth, mild evenings, clear skies. Ideal for desert weddings and events.

Winter (December to February): The Secret Desert

Mild days (18 to 22°C) perfect for exploring, cold nights (5 to 10°C) best enjoyed by the campfire, wrapped in a blanket with mint tea.
